Christopher Raeburn on Timberland’s GreenStride Fall 2021 – WWD
Timberland unveiled its Fall GreenStride collection on Thursday, and the waterproof boots are ready for just about anything nature can throw at them.
The fall 2021 collection boasts the brand’s GreenStride innovation, so named for its blend of 75% renewable sugar cane and natural rubber.
“The real key is that we are really aiming for a wide range,” Timberland Creative Director Christopher Raeburn said in an interview with WWD. “We see [GreenStride as] much of us cementing the absolute ownership of the boot by Timberland, and of course, the culture that goes with it.
Styles range from $ 150 to $ 170, with GreenStride Solar Ridge men’s waterproof hikers the first to arrive in stores and online. Other styles will follow in October, including the GreenStride TBL Originals Ultra waterproof boots for men, GreenStride Edge waterproof boots for men and women, and GreenStride Ray City waterproof boots for women. The shoes in the collection feature Timberdry linings made from 50% recycled plastic. For the uppers of the shoes, Timberland used their “Better Leather”, so nicknamed because it comes from gold (the highest level) or silver. tanneries designated by the Leather Working Group.
To celebrate the launch, Timberland hosted an event Wednesday night and handpicked an array of change agents for their campaign. Journalist and director Sophia Li, co-founder of culinary collective Ghetto Gastro Jon Gray, London-based birding collective Flock Together and methodical creator Rickey Y Kim (aka RYK) based in Los Angeles, as well as “Sculptor botany “, Olivia Rose, are among the stars of the campaign.
This summer, Timberland unveiled its Trekker spring 2022 urban hiking shoe, a shoe designed for teardown. While GreenStride isn’t quite ready for teardown, Raeburn spoke about what’s on the horizon.
“We have things to do, just for full transparency,” Raeburn said. “Right now for GreenStride the focus is on getting the right sole units, the right materials, but it’s a step forward where we want to go. That’s the bottom line about it, we’re completely transparent. We are by no means saying that this is the answer to everything.
The brand works with the recovery partner ReCircled to carry out the dismantling on the scale of certain ranges. From a higher perspective, the brand is committed to carbon neutrality by 2030, establishing a supply chain with a “net positive impact” on the planet.
“One of the things I’m proud of is that Timberland, and VF as a whole, is investing in [sustainability and innovation]”Said Raeburn.” It’ll make a difference. “
