“Everything we want is still in front of us”
The Buffalo Bills lost an icy game on Monday Night Football, losing 14-10 to the New England Patriots in a game that had playoff implications for both teams.
New England have enjoyed a winning streak that puts them in the AFC’s seed for the playoffs and ahead of Buffalo for the No. 1 spot in the ACF East as well.
Despite the loss, the Bills still have a chance to win the division and advance to the playoffs.
And QB Josh Allen knows it.
“Everything we want is still in front of us” Allen told the media after the game. “We have to start winning games to accomplish what we want to accomplish. But like I said, everything is right in front of us, we kind of control our own destiny.
Allen’s signature arm strength was exhibited by launching laser passes through 40 mph winds on a snowy night in Orchard Park. He had 15/30 passes with 145 yards and one touchdown while leading the rushing team with 39 yards on six carries.
Still, the team struggled to capitalize on the offense when opportunities presented themselves, especially with a 1-4 record in the red zone. In fact, the New England defense limited Buffalo to a total of 230 offensive yards.
“There is a sense of urgency with us,” continued the QB, while expressing his support for his teammates. “Very confident in our guys. We have great leaders, we have real professionals on this team, this can be the one that can tear us apart or bring us together and I think the latter. I think we’re going to get things done – I don’t think so, I know for a fact that we will because of the makeup that we have.
He was sacked twice in the game and escaped once, and Tyler Bass missed a 34-yard FG attempt in the 4th quarter.
Buffalo is 3-4 in its last seven games and is now 7-5 on the year with five games remaining in the regular season. Head coach Sean McDermott, who failed in a close game against the division leader, expressed his determination for the team to do better.
“Guys are frustrated, I’m frustrated, but we have to find a way to move forward,” McDermott said in his post-game press conference. “We have been inconsistent. Did we have any chances to win the game? Damn, we did it. We have to ask ourselves why.
“You have to train better, you have to play better, it’s not just one person, it’s all of us,” he added.
The team will have a week to right the ship before returning to Florida on Sunday, December 12 for the last time of the season. There, they’ll face a familiar foe in longtime Patriot quarterback and UGG boot enthusiast Tom Brady and his new team, Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
