Carrie Johnson has certainly perfected the art of diplomatic dress.
The 33-year-old, who is expecting her second child with Boris Johnson, has championed a number of British and enduring brands at the Conservative Party conference this week.
Perhaps her most striking outfit was the look chosen for the Prime Minister’s opening speech on Wednesday – a red corduroy dress with a ruffled collar, slightly puffed sleeves and a loose fit to the ankle.

The lab coat-style dress comes from Cabbages & Roses, a family-owned Somerset-based fashion and housewares brand that has the enduring credentials Johnson seems to love to champion.
The high waist and loose fit of the dress also meant that it crushed Johnson’s growing bump perfectly.
The Lola dress, £ 360, was available for purchase on the website, but since it was made in limited numbers, it is currently sold out.
Ms Johnson paired the dress with a pair of £ 130 black leather ankle boots from the Jigsaw chain.

It wasn’t the only time Johnson turned to Main Street for clothes during the conference.
Arriving in Manchester, where the conference was held, Johnson paired his black pants with a ribbon collar shirt and a bright, bright red blazer for £ 59.99, both from Zara’s favorite fashion. .

The gold-buttoned blazer echoed a similar double-breasted jacket, also by Zara, which the Duchess of Cambridge wore to the Euro 2020 Championship game.
This choice to dress on Main Street was probably an educated decision, especially since showing up in incredibly expensive couture in an economy stretched by the pandemic may well have been a political faux pas.

Later at the conference, Ms Johnson changed her outfit, donning a midnight blue dress with a soft geometric design to deliver a speech on LGBTQ + rights at the conference.
The £ 279 long-sleeved flowing dress with smocked details and puffed sleeves was from French label Claudie Pierlot, which is a brand on the more expensive end of the main street.
This is the second time the brand has been chosen for a political party conference, after Victoria Starmer also turned to the wear brand to support her husband Keir Starmer at the Labor Party conference.
This isn’t the first time Ms Johnson has tried to use her sartorial choices to promote sustainability.
Earlier this year, she wore a rented wedding dress to marry the Prime Minister and continued to shine the spotlight on the rental fashion industry with a wardrobe almost entirely on loan from London’s largest rental platforms HURR and My Wardrobe HQ at the G7 summit in Cornwall this summer.
She has also previously used her platform to bring attention to independent British fashion brands including Damselfly London, O Pioneers, Alice Early, Seraphina.
