The Great Outfits of Fashion History: Sienna Miller in Miniskirt, Cowboy Boots and Balenciaga City Bag

There are some really great celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you’re desperately trying to recreate at home. In ‘Great outfits in fashion history‘, the editors of Fashionista revisit their all-time favorite obscenes.
The quintessential British cool girl, Sienna Miller popularized bohemian chic and helped make designers like Nicolas Ghesquière, Matthew Williamson and Phoebe Philo household names while serving as a muse for their brands and others. But you didn’t have to buy designer labels to get Sienna Miller’s iconic look. Paparazzi would often find her in relatively accessible and casual pieces, just styled in an exceptionally cool and eclectic way (and accessorized with a big, baggy designer “it bag,” of course).
This 2004 outfit — which, judging by the middle finger photo, Miller hadn’t planned on photographing — is a prime example. Anyone could find a white ribbed tank top, denim miniskirt, oversized sunglasses and vintage cowboy boots. The large red Balenciaga City bag was a bit trickier. Nonetheless, it was an era-defining, and quintessentially Miller, street-style look.

As Miller continues to wear excellent, albeit more refined, things on the red carpet, that mid-year paparazzi look is starting to return. I’d bet there’s a Gen Z wearing this outfit even while I’m typing. And with the weather warming up, you can too. Shop some options in the gallery below.
