The man’s horror as three mattresses “with sheets” are thrown on the busy Bath road

Three mattresses “with sheets” were found thrown on a busy road in Bath this morning (Monday 6 September).
Sean Dudden lives on Shaws Way in Twerton and spotted the fly mess around 7:30 am when he came down for breakfast.
The 51-year-old said: “I went down for a cup of tea in the garden and my wife opened the curtains and said” there are three mattresses in the middle of the road at the junction “.

“I said I didn’t believe her, but then I saw them for myself and went out in a dressing gown and Ugg boots to take a picture.
“I can’t figure it out, wWhy throw them in a subdivision where anyone can see you?
“They were lucky to be out of sight of our CCTV. It’s the worst thing I’ve seen in a while.”

Sean added that he was worried that someone might get into the pile of bedding or that a visually impaired person might fall on them while crossing the road.
“It’s just a completely stupid thing to do. We have ambulances and blind people on our way.
“If an emergency vehicle came around the corner, it could have hit the mattresses and entered someone’s house.
“I called 101 and reported it to one of their team members and she spoke to council. I also emailed our adviser, Tim Ball,” Mr Dudden said. .
Although he wondered if the beds had fallen off a delivery truck, Sean said they would still have been “in their wrappers” in this case.
He considered moving them himself but, seeing that they had dirty sheets, he decided not to.
“The sheets weren’t clean and with Covid always you have to be careful. I think they might have come from a rental house.
“You find a lot of wardrobes and dressers around here, thrown in the alleys, and it doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to figure out that everything is coming from someone’s house,” Sean said.
At around 8 a.m. this morning (Monday September 6), a van arrived to collect the mattresses and they were taken away.
Residents of Bath and north-east Somerset can order the collection of large trash on the council’s website. You can see examples of what can be collected and a price list here.
