The Ugg Mini has a time, according to these stars
Without fail, each new season inaugurates a new It shoe. This summer it was all about Bottega Veneta’s padded square-toe mules (Katie Holmes, Rihanna and many more were fans). The previous summer, the humble Teva sandal had a moment and was favored by the street style ensemble. You simply can never predict which style of shoe will take off; affordable or stylish, it’s an open playground. Now that we enter 2021, a new footwear trend is already brewing – and it’s not exactly what you’d expect. The hottest shoe of the New Year isn’t fresh off the catwalks, but rather a miniature version of a beloved classic. Discover the Ugg mini boot.
This winter, stars such as Emily Ratajkowski, Kendall Jenner, Joan Smalls and many more have all stepped out in the brand’s petite Uggs, and the style is totally fresh. Nicknamed the Ultra Mini Classic, this is a shrunken, shorter version of the classic taller Uggs, which have gone and dated since they peaked in the early 2000s. Remember when Paris Hilton and Jennifer Lopez wore them with their best Juicy Couture tracksuits? By the way, Juicy is back. Well, the new mini Uggs are sleeker and more understated, but still comfortable. They are cut at the bottom of the ankle relative to the calf, so the silhouette is much more flattering as well.
The stars dressed the Ultra Minis (introduced last year) both top to bottom, also showcasing their versatility. Ratajkowski, for example, wore his classic camel boots with a leather blazer and a neon hoodie. Jenner and Smalls both wore them with athleisure. Irina Shayk went bold and opted for a pair in hot pink, showcasing the minis which can even be a trendy shoe when styled well. Take these adjustments as real proof that Uggs can really look stylish.
After all, since their boom in the 2000s, plush sheepskin-lined slip-ons have remained a polarizing fashion item: you love them or hate them. There is also the ongoing debate around whether or not it is an outdoor or indoor shoe; classic suede boots are not waterproof, but many still wear them as winter shoes. Some just think they are just old ugg-ly. But to see the mini Uggs gaining ground with the trendsetters? This calls for a serious return to the Y2K look. It also helps that cool brands like Telfar, Y / Project, Molly Goddard and many more have recently collaborated with the brand, giving their shoes a decidedly haute couture feel. 2021 is officially the year of the Ugg!
