The “Ugly” Trends Celebrities Are Trying To Create

Love it or hate it, celebrities continue to wield immense influence over fashion. Before a trend becomes popular, you’ll usually find it worn by a star, and the masses will think it’s ugly at first. I know that sounds ridiculous, but listen to me on this. All celebrities 2000s uniform (a trucker hat, a velor tracksuit, UGG Bootsand rimless sunglasses) was considered “ugly”, but it is now the look that defines the era. The ’90s R&B and hip-hop icons would be called ‘ghetto’ for rocking a cropped crop top, low-rise baggy pants and oversized hoop earrings, but now the ensemble has become a party look must-have for women of all walks of life. And let’s not forget there’s always been an uproar throughout history on how the clothes (for example, the mini skirtshoulder pads, leggings, and even costumes) defies the norms of what is “acceptable” for women to wear in public. Fashion and all rising trends have always been an important indicator of where culture is, and they often push or lead culture forward, whether we like it or not.
So what trends could we say are worth watching right now? Ahead, I dug through recent celebrity street style images to identify seven “ugly” trends that continue to grow. Whether they will end up defining this era or whether you will wear them yourself is not yet known. But if history tells us anything, these celebrity-approved trends are bound to be etched in our collective memories and cause a stir in the process.
