The next step in Timberland’s sustainability journey is to take back its products.
The exterior star today unveiled its global product take-back program, which Timberland says is a “critical next step on the road to circularity.” The effort, which was developed with the help of industrial sustainability company ReCircled, will provide the infrastructure for Timberland’s circular design and development cycle. Additionally, the company said that this program also supports its plans for the products it creates. to have a net positive impact on nature by 2030.
With this program, consumers will be able to return Timberland footwear, clothing and accessories to a Timberland store, starting in August. (Timberland has said it will introduce a digital door-to-door delivery option this summer.) These products, the brand said, will either be repaired or refurbished to be sold on their own re-commerce platform, or they will be recycled and recycled. in future products.
Following its launch in the United States, Timberland said it will bring its efforts to the Europe, Middle East and Africa region in the fall, and the Asia-Pacific region in the spring of ’22.
“This take-back program is a critical step in pursuing our goal of 100% circularity, while meeting the ever-growing consumer demand for responsible design and progressive retail options,” said Susie Mulder, president of the global brand Timberland. “Timberland always builds our products for longevity. Now these products will have a second life, whether they are refurbished for resale, or taken apart and recycled into something new. Beyond the program, Timberland also revealed the first glimpses of its latest eco-innovation, the Timberloop Trekker, a Spring 22 look he described as an urban hiker designed specifically for circularity. The model will come with “sneaker-like comfort and a progressive exterior look,” Timberland said, as well as an atypical sole construction that allows the outer soles to be removed in the ReCircled facility and each part to be placed in its own recycling stream.
